Playwriting Ensemble - Columbia College
High school students from all over Chicago meet Saturday mornings to work with MTW artists and Columbia College Fiction Writing Department faculty at Columbia's South Loop campus.
Focusing on a common theme that promotes social change, participants learn to write, revise and edit their personal stories using the Story Workshop® method. After a comprehensive submission process, selected stories are published in a beautifully bound anthology.
Collaborating on their ideas, participants outline and create a musical theatre script. Using those stories as inspiration, the young writers take the next step and look for common themes, challenges and similar characters. Through this process they learn how to structure and write a successful musical theatre play.
The Teens Together Summer Theatre Ensemble performs the completed script. Young playwrights have the opportunity to continue their work throughout the summer with the Ensemble by performing in the play they helped create.
